More Like 1929 Every Day brought news that we appear to be in a massive bubble with regards to AI. The internal deals among this cluster of companies dependent on OpenAI and Nvidia seems to be “round tripping” to the skeptical.
Or are we truly at the inflection point where Artificial General Intelligence will be quickly followed by Artificial Super Intelligence?
I can not think about this without factoring in two other related developments. The first is fusion. If we truly are about to see utility scale energy production using nothing more then deuterium, that is a bigger game changer for our species that mastering coal, oil, and gas. An order of magnitude bigger, perhaps even two or three.
The other is quantum computing. All I’ve said about this so far is posting my own links on how to get post-quantum software running on my system. There will be a Great Decrypting when quantum capabilities reach a certain stage, but replacing a few cryptographic algorithms with quantum resistant options will put an end to that. It’s not yet a standard thing, but by 2030 all software will ship with these things by default.
I am not sure what entering an age of abundance in terms of intelligence means when organic intelligence will decline by 20% in the year 2100 due to rising carbon dioxide levels. We will probably see arcologies for the lucky few where CO2 levels are half of what they will be outdoors. It will probably not be good for the masses, but that’s an eternal rule with our species.
Anyway, watch the video, ponder if we’re about to have an extinction level event, and consider if perhaps a small numer of us will become Marooned In Realtime. We are truly in an age where cyberpunk and science fiction offer just as much as old school strategists when it comes to predicting what’s next.
So far, there's been much slop and not as much of actual use. But yes, that could change.
"The AI field has some of the smartest minds in the world working in it (and some of the highest paid), and it’s been reduced to creating more chatbots and TikTok clones. In OpenAI’s case, the accumulation of all this effort, knowledge, and billions of dollars of investment is apps and social networks that are highly addictive, hyper-personalized content farms designed to eventually sell adverts? Erotic conversation and role-playing with chatbots? A feature that has chatbots prompting the user each morning? The company — once nonprofit and for humanity — is now chasing the same growth and engagement metrics as every other tech giant."
