We’re just days short of the 96th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Depression. That we are in conditions similar to the Dot-com bubble have been painfully obvious for a while. Rather than me running on for a thousand words, let’s have a look at what the world has to say about this.
I used to get all my news via Inoreader, which also does the heavy lifting on situational awareness around here. I also used to read Washington Post cover to cover, minus lifestyle and sports, but I quit that in disgust in early November of 2024. It wasn’t intentional, but I find in late 2025 that most of my news is coming from YouTube. This is a sampling of a notable and worrying trend.
Attention Conservation Notice:
A video sampler on our undeniable economic hazards. I’m personally paddling as fast as I can to get to a defensible position before it all lets go with a bang. If you need some shareable content to support discussion, come on in …
Bubbling Bubbles:
Andrew Ross Sorkin interview on the parallels between the Roaring Twenties my grandparents knew and today.
A dozen big players are passing ever increasing amounts between themselves and all of them are counting this internal dealing as revenue, when it’s not. This is round tripping, a common method of fraud, unless you’re doing it at the very top of a spectacular bubble, with a government that’s utterly disinterested in oversight.
It’s not just some guy with a string wall and an obsession, CNBC has the same coverage, just in less detail on who the players are.
Conclusion:
This situation at least seems good, as I’m becoming a teeny tiny player in the overall AI scrum, but I am not unmindful of the risks. Both of the things I’m doing are (or at least were) calculated to at least continue in the face of massive market headwinds.
This is a bit of positioning for a personal career piece that will appear right on the heels of this. Operation Pillow Fort is still the plan for Q4, we’ll be talking personal security procedures, but overall AI is the focus of one thing I am doing and it’s wiggling a bit deeper into the other thing with each passing day.
So for better or worse, we’re going to bend ourselves around this new center of gravity, and hope we’re on the edge of some monumental change, perhaps involving AI and fusion. I can’t say that I’m certain, but I’ve long recognized this as the only happy ending for humanity’s current situation.
