U.S. & Philippines First Cyber Digital Policy Dialogue
Digital battlefield shaping is spreading
The news services I follow are al Jazeera, BBC, Deutsche Welle, France 24, and I recently added Singapore’s CNA. The rule for picking outlets is simple - do they maintain a presence in the country on which they are reporting? I don’t want social media dreck, I want folks who are on the ground, who get at the truth of the matter.
Here they’ve got a bit of news I’ve seen nowhere else - there’s an upcoming U.S./Philippine meeting on cyber security. The casino to “live off the land” cybercrime fueling influence operations is … let’s just say there are days I envy the material success I see some others having. But I wouldn’t sleep well, doing what they do, no matter how cushy a layup I could afford by mimicking them.
Like so many things, this is both overdue and yet … uncertain. We don’t know what will happen in November, and if it goes badly, criminality in foreign countries will take a back seat to that sort of thing right here at home.
I guess we keep up the grind and hope for the best. Some days doing that is harder than it should be.
