Classification - people are divided into “us and them”.
Symbolization - victims are forced to identify themselves.
Discrimination - victims begin to face systematic discrimination.
Dehumanization - people are equated with animals, vermin, or diseases.
Organization - government creates police/military groups to enforce policies.
Polarization - government propaganda turns populace against the victims.
Preparation - official action to remove/relocate victims begins.
Persecution - beginning of theft of property, murders, trial massacres.
Extermination - wholesale elimination, not murder, “they” aren’t human.
Denial - government denies and covers up the slaughter.
Now I want you to fire up whatever tool you picked for keeping timelines and work through the news for yourself. Which stages have you observed?
The United States reached the final level in the closing weeks of 2025. Based on Trump’s signs of IV use on his hands starting in August, his increasingly erratic behavior, and the recent news of his cranial MRI, it would appear he’s on Leqembi, an Alzheimer’s drug. His father died of this disease. He will not live to face justice for this, but members of his administration certainly will.
The person who reminded me that this list exists lost half their family in the Holocaust. My ex-wife’s father was the first born here after they fled pogroms at the turn of the last century in what is now Moldova. Her mother’s family was Polish. I met one of the few survivors at a family reunion in the 1990s. Seeing that crude numeric tattoo was … jarring. One of the subscribers to this Substack received the Order of Princess Olha for her work documenting the Holodomor.
Go through the list of people you know … can you find someone with direct personal knowledge of genocide? Time has taken all but a few of those who recall the Holocaust, but Bosnia and Rwanda were just thirty years ago. Or maybe ask one of your Palestinian friends …

Still as an outlier and a lousy typist I think back to 2015. It was the time when the dots connected and I began to scream of this. And today it feels they cannot see. The moment we are in. My body has endured assaults . My mind has endured temptations of bots. Still they pretend the outlier was of poor character. Those who with law degrees and media at their disposal. The few gifts of power I have are from my Cherokee and British ancestors. To feel our earth and weep with our seas. To know how one must feel knowing and knowing one cannot unknow. It was my deepest warning and fear. It is here. On the shores of California and Florida and New York and Texas. Please America please right the ship. Love is a thankless gift. Love is everything
