Shades Of Operation Vengeance
Ukraine maybe nailed the deputy head of GRU Unit 29155
This flaming wreck of a shadow fleet tanker is reportedly carrying General Andrey Averyanov, the deputy head of GRU Unit 29155. This very much evokes Operation Vengeance, the 1943 Allied detection and interception of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the planner of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Russian sabotage and murder in Europe, including the attack on Giles Raymond Demourot back in 2017, is the work of that GRU unit. I absolutely HATE that we are doing this AGAIN for the third time in a century. But if fight we must, this is what I want to see - the authors of the trouble facing the choice of burning or drowning.
This is an excellent followup to the strike on Novorossiysk, which cost Russia not just its second Kilo submarine in the Black Sea …
But it’s forced them to shut in the remnants of the Black Sea fleet until they figure out how to protect what’s left of the force.
One less Kilo means four fewer swim to fly tubes hitting apartment buildings and hospitals with Kalibr cruise missiles. Those barges mean the two remaining seaworthy Kilos aren’t going anywhere, nor are any of the missile boats. They can’t hit Ukraine from the sea any more.
Nor can they defend their shadow fleet tankers.
And their air defenses can not defend their refineries.
Maybe … just maybe … we’re going to display a little foresight and wisdom, rather than burning our civilization to the ground again.
