Serbia has been walking a tightrope, on one side its long alliance with Russia, on the other the desire to join the European Union. Serbia has been in a position similar to Germany during the early Cold War, thanks to their beastly behavior during the dissolution of Yugoslavia. If they are separated from Russia, much of what animus remains may dissipate in the E.U. at large, but it will be generations before their neighbors chill out.
This is a positive counterpoint to the negative in Poland - theyβve elected their version of Trump, and now we see just how much criminality and irresponsibility they will tolerate.
