OpenCVE, VulnerableBox, Tethered Phones

In which I notice some CVEs ...

I got some CVEs today from OpenCVE for VirtualBox, which set off a round of looking at my configurations there. The dramatically improved cell phone tethering and default generous data allowances makes it worth considering how to use a phone there. If you connect the device via USB, then configure your desktop for some junk IP, you can use that network in a bridged fashion. Your workstation has whatever service you use by default, and a virtual machine can access this entirely different network.

I donโ€™t like that config for touchy stuff, because no matter how slick you are itโ€™s just a matter of time before you goof and paste something from IRL into a sneaky VM. So Iโ€™m still tethering a laptop with a fresh OS install, but some of you might find some utility in this setup.

Here are the screen shots from the video so you donโ€™t have to pause, screen cap, zoom the image, etc.
