New Source: Ed Nash/Assassin Drones

A sniper's view on what's next.

Today I learned Ed Nash has served as a sniper against ISIS in Syria. Prior to this I knew him only as a connoisseur of oddball aircraft who makes interesting videos about them. Here he fuses both interests for the sake of some futurism regarding what is coming with assassin drones.

Things like this have been on my mind the last couple years, but not for VIPs. California has 33 million acres of forest and every year someone connected in some way to the fire fighting industry just has to set some enormous blaze, sometimes for a paycheck, but it’s often difficult to determine their motivations.

Now take a look at the Fresnel lens in the picture below the video. You can get a four pack of those for $7 on Amazon and I think the 3x magnification would be sufficient to start a fire. Anyone who has these, a dozen plastic straws, a bit of Gorilla Glue, and a utility knife could construct something like D&D four sided dice in a matter of minutes.

This “solar incendiary” would be light enough to transport by drone, it will always land with at least one lens in position to take advantage of sunlight at some point during the day, and there are a lot of places a drone could drop it that are simply not reachable on foot. If it works, it works, if it fails, it’ll never be found.
