H.I. Sutton: Iran Closing Hormuz
A well regarded analyst breaks down the strait closure scenario.
H.I. Sutton is a very well regarded analyst focused on naval issues. This unscripted video covers what kit Iran has and how they might employ it to close the Strait of Hormuz.
Once the strait is closed, which I imagine will happen fairly soon, 20% of the worldβs oil supply is shut in. Oil producers will declare force majeure - their operation is down and nothing they can do about it.
The United States is in no way dependent on oil from this region, unless we were during the Yom Kippur war and its aftermath. Shale oil has made us a net exporter. This is fantastic for Russia though, their revenues will spike.
But Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are NOT OK with this, and given the potential for drone activity in the Gulf of Oman and beyond, you can probably add Oman to the list of unhappy campers as well.
A final thought. Have a look at Wahabi Saudi Arabia β¦ and all their Shia population β¦ right over the top of all their oil.
If the Strait of Hormuz is shut, Diaper Don may have to give back the 747 to the Qataris!
