This has been a bang up year on hardware donations. I have previously received …
M1 MacBook Pro
M1 Mac Air
12.9” iPad Pro
iPhone XR
And now, to cap off that amazing run, someone got a 32” Samsung QHD 2560x1440 curved display that simply will not work in their office space. They’ve happily agreed to exchange it for the 24” Samsung FHD I use on my second desk.
The monitor I have now offers Display Port, DVI, and VGA. I am working with Raspberry Pi5s and they come with a mini HDMI to HDMI cable. There’s no way to make them work with that display w/o buying an adapter, and I’m loathe to do that given how rarely I need a monitor for them, so I’ve been crawling under my desk and switching cables as needed.
I assuming I nab the next half price studio unicorn off Craigslist, and I just might given that I email the manager daily, I’ll be able to have something like the setup I had when I had room for a 72” folding table. I’ll need to come up with another VGA/HDMI device for the left hand station, which has a compact keyboard and hosts whatever small device I might be used at the time. The 32” will get the right side station - I still need 3840x2160 for Maltego stuff.
The world at large appears to be going mad, but here at home there are small incremental improvements. This is one I’ve wanted for a very long time.
