I was chatting with the source of Pinky & Brain a few days ago and mentioned that my iPhone 8 was on its last legs. I found a lovely surprise when I checked my PO box today - that’s an iPhone XR there on the right.
Anything would have been better than the one I had, as it’s almost as tired and broken down as I am. But being an XR this has the A12 chip and I’m told these have never been successfully jailbroke, which means no persistent malware. That’s a great comfort in 2024.
This by no means puts an end to the Pixel 8 plans. The XR is sturdier than the older phone, but neither are equivalent to the protection one gets with GrapheneOS. This is just for the “real me”, a device with some apps I use for real life things, and a Google Voice number I might even answer when it rings.
This is not at all how I envisioned things would progress late last year, but here I am, with easy access to BART and some nice mobile equipment. I guess I’m going to be out and about more than I’ve been in the past.
