Motivation:
Google, in case you hadn’t noticed, is pretty well wrecked. I suspect the flood of slop is overloading their intake capability(!) given how broken keyword searches when specifying a site have become. I used that feature all the time, now it’s pretty much gone, and I haz a sad.
I am self-soothing by spending more time with Perplexity and I really like it. I’m using it on both my work focused Perplexity Comet browser and my general use Chrome setup. Comet is based on Chrome, but it’s single profile, and I have a LOT of concerns running an AI enabled browser. I’ll trust it for work just because I want to get familiar, but hot links from random chatter in Signal are a bridge too far, so that’s staying Chrome for the moment.
Perplexity Pro permits you to use their Sonar model or any of the big three mentioned in Choosing Your AI Model(s). Like Antigravity, this is a framework that lets you not just choose, but you can change on the fly as needed.
Perplexity lets you run MCP servers locally - two of these are things I built for myself.
The official connectors are painfully bare but I’m sure this is going to expand, that will be part of their push in Q1 of next year.
