This is how you access a Disinfodrome system.
There are always two servers, one is the search engine, the other holds the files. This means you have to put in each URL, get a six digit code emailed to you, and then enter it in the respective login screen. You can’t mix & match, each URL/code is unique.
File Server:
Visit the file server first. The Trump Russia demo data mentioned in Disinfodrome Documents is:
Some file servers have an introductory page, some do not. If you get this 403 Forbidden message, it actually means your login is successful. This happens because the system does not let people just randomly wander around a pile of 750,000 documents, you need to use the search engine.
Search Engine:
The search engine will have a URL of it's own, in the case of the Trump Russia demo documents it is:
https://oss.disinfodro.me/search
Once you receive the email and enter the code you’ll see this screen. You MUST have the trailing /search or you’ll get the default web server page.
Search Engine Error:
Open Semantic Search is an elderly piece of software and at times it just sits down for a rest. If you encounter this error, just wait for two minutes, then hit refresh. If you see the same error after that I will have to log in and manually coax it back to life. Across the entire fleet of eight servers I will have to do this once or twice monthly.
Conclusion:
The URLs in this article are for the demo system. If you are on a special project you should have received a pair of URLs for your files and search.
