Conducttr: Reputational Crisis
I'm doing a Conducttr "Live sim" tomorrow, registration is still open.
I have been aware of Conducttr for a couple years and I’ve wanted to get into their monthly exercises for a while. Assuming nothing else gets in the way, I’ll be doing the Reputational Crisis Live sim tomorrow at 15:00 GMT, which is 0800 PST. What got me motivated to do this was last month’s Kaliningrad Crucible Wargame, which was hosted by Mark Galeotti - recall that I reviewed Weaponization of Everything last October.

Conclusion:
I learned of this organization from Jim Stewartson, who gave the keynote at the 2014 ARGFest-o-Con, where Conducttr founder Robert Pratten was also a speaker. My introduction to ARGs was in the context of Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street. My biggest influence in those years was Jane McGonigal, but I had to hunt on my shelves for her 2011 book, Reality is Broken. If you want to get into her stuff there are a blizzard of interviews, short articles, and papers. I read those first and found the book to be … merely OK.
The features covered are … most of that stuff you can find on here in the context of The Online Operation Kill Chain material from Q4 of 2023. So this is good, it’s a whole area where people get paid to do this stuff, and I imagine I’ll be a bit of a zebra, as this is a blue team turf, and I’ve been nothing but the aggressor, at least as far as anyone can tell from public activity.
