Twelve years ago I wrote Greater Iranβs Greatest Problem. The world is hotter, dryer, and things are getting steadily worse. The only thing Iran has going for it is thousands of years of doing serious water engineering - by building Qanats. These underground tunnels bring water to where itβs needed β¦ assuming thereβs enough rain and snow.
This is a new direction for @Asianometry but I like it. This guy is a bit like me, he wanders all over, but digs deep when he does stop.
If Iran were not burdened with sanctions, they could do something about this problem. If they were left alone their famously fractious politics would pull down the mullahs. We almost got that done in 2009 and it bugs me to see all these wasted years. Their baby boom, which began in 1980, has been ready for a change for sixteen years.
One of the more popular articles here is MIOS: Iranβs PressTV. That is not about hatred of Persians, quite the opposite, I hope they can finally free themselves before this problem becomes a nasty crisis.
