Alawite Massacre Explained

Irreconcilable combatants from the Assad regime.

BLUF: The remnants of the Assad regime started trouble, they sought to cause a massacre, and they were wildly successful.

The government MUST deal with the old regime, not with broad purges, but with focused attention on finding people who committed war crimes. But when you hunt the officers, the underlings do not know how far down that is going to reach.

This is not at all unexpected, and I hope the new government can handle this provocation without making it worse.
