For years that's been a curse - cyborgs causing trouble. This is different ... like having trained service animals. The dog that will keep sheep together, the oxen team that can move logs in a forest just following a guy waving a stick. This is a workable model for humans, at least until they start outsmarting us. Then they'll be like cats - fed on demand, and little understanding of what they actually DO :-)
We have a few scifi models - The Matrix, Terminator, I’m heartbroken they didn’t continue William Gibson’s series The Peripheral. But maybe Vernor Vinge saw most clearly - in The Peace War. AI, physics, authoritarianism. We can’t even get William Gibson movies yet, they’ll never delve into Vinge, it’s just too … eh, hard to describe why.
